  • Author: Thomas
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cruffins 1x

Description

Delicious Cheesy Garlic Cruffins made from flaky crescent roll dough layered with garlic butter, chives, and mild cheddar cheese. These pull-apart muffin-shaped pastries are baked until golden and brushed with a savory garlic butter glaze, perfect for a savory breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Filling

  • 3 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll sheets
  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 3 cups (339 g) mild cheddar cheese, shredded, divided

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a standard 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out each tube of crescent roll dough into a 12×16-inch rectangle. If using perforated crescent roll dough, pinch the seams to seal the perforations.
  3. Make Garlic Butter for Layering: In a medium bowl, combine ½ cup softened unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives, and 1 tablespoon minced garlic. Mix well.
  4. Spread Butter on Dough: Spread about one-third of the garlic butter mixture evenly over the surface of one dough sheet.
  5. Sprinkle Cheese: Evenly sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mild cheddar cheese over the buttered dough.
  6. Roll the Dough: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough up into a log shape.
  7. Cut Rolls: Cut each log in half, then cut each half lengthwise into two equal strips, giving you four sections per dough sheet.
  8. Repeat with Remaining Dough: Repeat rolling, butter spreading, cheese sprinkling, and cutting with the other two tubes of dough, resulting in 12 sections.
  9. Shape the Cruffins: Take one section at a time with the layered side facing out and roll it tightly into a cinnamon roll shape, tucking the ends underneath.
  10. Place in Muffin Tin: Place each rolled cruffin into the prepared muffin tin cups, spacing evenly.
  11. Bake: Bake the cruffins in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Prepare Garlic Butter Topping: While baking, whisk together 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon finely chopped chives, and 1 teaspoon kosher salt in a small bowl.
  13. Brush Topping on Warm Cruffins: Remove the cruffins from the oven and immediately brush the garlic butter mixture over the warm rolls to add extra flavor and a glossy finish.

Notes

  • You can use perforated crescent roll dough but be sure to pinch seams tightly to avoid separation.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
  • These cruffins can be reheated in a warm oven for a few minutes before eating.
  • Feel free to substitute cheddar with other mild cheeses like Monterey Jack or mozzarella.
  • For extra crispness, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking, watching closely to prevent burning.
