Description

These Cinnamon French Toast Sticks are a delightful twist on the classic breakfast favorite, perfect for dipping in warm maple syrup. Made with thick white bread batons coated in a cinnamon-sugar mixture and pan-fried to golden perfection, they offer a crispy exterior and a soft, custardy center. Ideal for a fun breakfast or brunch treat that’s easy to prepare and sure to please the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

French Toast Sticks

  • 4 thick slices white bread, preferably stale
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Maple syrup, to serve (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Remove the crust from each bread slice and cut each slice into 3 equal thick batons to create the french toast sticks.
  2. Mix Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt. This mixture will be used to coat the bread sticks.
  3. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: On a separate plate, combine the white sugar and cinnamon powder to use as the coating after frying.
  4. Melt Butter: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium-high heat, preparing it for cooking the sticks.
  5. Coat and Cook First Batch: Quickly roll the bread sticks in the egg mixture, shaking off any excess to avoid sogginess. Place them in the hot pan and cook in two batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry Until Golden: Cook the sticks on each side until they turn a golden brown color, ensuring they are cooked through but still soft inside.
  7. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Immediately transfer the hot sticks to the cinnamon sugar plate, rolling them quickly so the coating sticks well while they are still warm.
  8. Cook Remaining Sticks: Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and repeat the cooking and coating process with the remaining bread sticks.
  9. Serve: Serve the cinnamon French toast sticks warm with maple syrup for dipping, for an extra sweet and flavorful finish.

Notes

  • Using stale bread helps the sticks hold their shape and absorb the egg mixture better without becoming too soggy.
  • Do not soak the bread sticks in the egg mixture for too long to prevent them from falling apart.
  • Cook the french toast sticks in batches to ensure even and crispy cooking.
  • Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture, as they are crisp on the outside and tender inside.
  • Maple syrup is optional but recommended for extra sweetness.
