Ingredients
Scale
Green Beans
- 1 pound green beans, trimmed
Batter
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup club soda, cold
Frying & Seasoning
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- ¼ teaspoon coarse salt (or garlic salt)
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
Dipping Sauce
- Sriracha mayo, for dipping
Instructions
- Prep: Wash the green beans thoroughly and trim off the ends to prepare them for frying.
- Heat Oil: In a large saucepan or deep fryer, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C), ensuring it’s hot enough for deep frying.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together ⅓ cup all-purpose flour and 3 tablespoons cornstarch until well combined.
- Prepare Wet Mixture: In another bowl, beat 1 large egg, then stir in ⅓ cup of cold club soda to create the liquid batter component.
- Mix Batter: Add the wet mixture to the dry flour and cornstarch mixture, whisking until you have a smooth batter ready for coating the green beans.
- Batter the Green Beans: Dip each green bean individually into the batter, fully coating it to ensure a crispy finish when fried.
- Fry: Carefully place the battered green beans into the hot oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes, or until they turn golden and crispy.
- Drain: Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried green beans from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Season: Immediately season the fried green beans with ¼ teaspoon coarse salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper while they are still hot.
- Serve: Serve the crispy fried green beans hot with sriracha mayo or your favorite dipping sauce for a spicy kick.
Notes
- Make sure the oil temperature stays around 375°F for the best crispiness and to avoid greasy beans.
- Cold club soda helps create a lighter, crispier batter due to its carbonation.
- You can substitute garlic salt for the coarse salt for a mild garlic flavor.
- These are best enjoyed fresh to maintain their crispiness.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour.
