  • Author: Thomas
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Falooda is a traditional Indian dessert drink that combines creamy milk, floral rose syrup, crunchy basil seeds, and delicate vermicelli for a refreshing and indulgent treat. This rosy milkshake is perfect for cooling down on warm days and offers a delightful blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Basil Seed Mixture

  • 2 tbsp basil seeds
  • Hot water (enough to cover basil seeds)

Vermicelli

  • Vermicelli (quantity as preferred)
  • Hot water (enough to soak vermicelli)

Milkshake Base

  • 500 ml whole milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp rose syrup (Kai lin brand recommended)

Garnish

  • Pistachio seeds
  • Edible rose petals
  • Optional: Ice cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare Basil Seeds: Soak 2 tablespoons of basil seeds in enough hot water to cover them and let them sit for 20 minutes until they become gloopy and gelatinous.
  2. Soak Vermicelli: Pour hot water over the vermicelli and let it soak for 4 minutes. Then drain the water completely.
  3. Boil Milk Mixture: In a thick-bottomed pan, combine 500 ml whole milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, and 3 tablespoons rose syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Cool Milk Mixture: Remove the milk from heat and set it aside to cool down to room temperature.
  5. Assemble Falooda: In a large glass, add 2 tablespoons of the soaked basil seeds followed by 2 to 3 tablespoons of the soaked vermicelli.
  6. Pour Milk: Top the basil seeds and vermicelli with the cooled, rose-flavored milk mixture.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Decorate the drink with pistachio seeds and edible rose petals. Optionally, add a scoop of ice cream on top for extra creaminess and indulgence.

Notes

  • Use whole milk for best richness and creaminess, but you can substitute with low-fat milk if preferred.
  • Basil seeds need to be soaked properly to achieve their signature texture.
  • Rose syrup brands vary in sweetness; adjust sugar quantity accordingly.
  • Adding ice cream enhances the dessert-like quality of falooda but is optional.
  • For a vegan version, substitute milk with plant-based milk and omit ice cream or use vegan ice cream.
