Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter
- 8 slices bread
- 2 Tablespoons butter (28 g)
Sandwich Filling
- 4 slices ham
- 8 slices cheddar cheese (or Swiss, provolone, white cheddar, or your favorite kind)
Honey Mustard Sauce
- 1/4 cup honey (85 g)
- 2 Tablespoons yellow mustard (30 mL)
- 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard (15 mL)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise (113 g)
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (5 mL), optional
Instructions
- Prepare Honey Mustard Sauce: In a bowl, combine honey, yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and optional hot sauce. Stir until smooth. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use; can be made in advance for convenience.
- Optional Bread Preparation: Spread a thin layer of the prepared honey mustard sauce on the inside surfaces of each bread slice to add extra flavor to your sandwiches.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Layer each sandwich with 3 slices of cheddar cheese (or your cheese choice) and a slice of ham. Make sure the layers are even for balanced flavor.
- Butter the Bread: Spread butter on the outside of each sandwich bread slice evenly to ensure a golden, crispy crust when cooked.
- Cook the Sandwich: Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side for a few more minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden and crispy.
- Serve: Serve your warm grilled ham and cheese sandwiches immediately, accompanied by the honey mustard sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Use your preferred cheese variety such as Swiss or provolone for a different flavor profile.
- The honey mustard sauce can be prepared a day ahead to save time.
- Adjust the amount of hot sauce in the sauce according to your spice preference.
- Cooking on medium-low heat helps prevent burning and ensures the cheese melts perfectly.
