Description

Delight in a spooky and fun treat with these Marshmallow Rice Krispies Halloween Brains. Soft, chewy marshmallows bind crispy Rice Krispies cereal into brain-shaped snacks, brilliantly tinted with red food coloring to mimic eerie veins. Perfect for Halloween parties or themed celebrations, these no-bake goodies combine familiar flavors with a creepy presentation that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 6 cups Regular marshmallows
  • 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • Red food coloring, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare a bain-marie: Fill a medium saucepan with ½ cup water and bring it to a gentle boil. Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan, ensuring the bowl does not touch the water, to create a bain-marie for melting the ingredients gently.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: Add 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 6 cups of regular marshmallows to the heatproof bowl. Whisk continuously until the mixture is completely melted, smooth, and glossy.
  3. Add salt and coloring: Remove the bowl from heat. Whisk in ½ teaspoon salt and 2-3 drops of red food coloring until the color is evenly incorporated, giving the mixture a blood-like hue for the brain effect.
  4. Combine with cereal: Quickly pour the marshmallow mixture over 4 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and stir thoroughly but rapidly to ensure every piece is evenly coated.
  5. Shape the brains: Lightly oil your hands to prevent sticking, then take portions of the mixture and shape them into oval forms mimicking brains. Use a butter knife to carve a groove down the center of each to add realistic detail.
  6. Add vein details: Dip a toothpick into red food coloring and carefully draw vein patterns on the shaped brains to enhance the spooky Halloween look.

Notes

  • Oil your hands lightly or use cooking spray to make shaping easier and less sticky.
  • Adjust the amount of red food coloring based on your preferred intensity of color.
  • For a more vivid vein effect, use a fine brush or a toothpick with food coloring.
  • Store finished treats in an airtight container to keep them fresh and chewy.
  • These treats are best eaten within 2-3 days for optimal texture and flavor.
