  • Author: Thomas
  • Total Time: 60-75 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

This classic Meatloaf recipe combines ground beef with savory Parmesan cheese, garlic, onion, and Italian seasoned bread crumbs for a flavorful, hearty meal. Topped with a tangy ketchup and optional mozzarella cheese, this easy-to-make meatloaf is baked to perfection and makes a comforting dinner favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 eggs

Topping

  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • Thin layer of ketchup for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready to bake the meatloaf evenly.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, ketchup, mustard, kosher salt, black pepper, Italian seasoned bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and eggs. Use your hands to mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated without overworking the meat.
  3. Shape Meatloaf: Transfer the meat mixture into an 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. Shape the mixture so that the top is rounded to resemble a classic loaf form. Smooth the surface for even cooking.
  4. Add Toppings: Spread a thin layer of ketchup evenly over the top of the meatloaf. If using, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top to add a creamy, cheesy finish.
  5. Bake: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes. The meatloaf is done when the internal temperature reaches between 155°F to 160°F (68°C to 71°C).
  6. Rest the Meatloaf: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. During this time, the internal temperature will rise to about 160°F to 165°F, ensuring it’s fully cooked and juicy.
  7. Slice and Serve: Once rested, slice the meatloaf and serve hot. Enjoy with your favorite sides for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for best flavor and texture.
  • Do not overmix the meat to keep the meatloaf tender.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfect doneness and food safety.
  • Optional mozzarella topping adds an extra cheesy layer but can be omitted for a simpler version.
  • Letting the meatloaf rest after baking helps retain juices and makes slicing easier.
