Description
A rich and flavorful homemade pumpkin coffee syrup infused with warm autumn spices and a hint of maple, perfect for adding festive flavor to your morning coffee or latte.
Ingredients
Scale
Syrup Base
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree
Spices
- 1 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/8 tsp grated nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
Flavorings
- 1/2 tsp maple extract (add more for stronger flavor)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine Syrup Ingredients: In a small saucepan over medium to medium-high heat, add water, brown sugar, pumpkin puree, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, grated nutmeg, and ground cloves. Whisk thoroughly to dissolve the sugar and create a smooth mixture. Heat until the mixture just barely reaches a boil, avoiding a full boil to preserve flavor.
- Thicken the Syrup: Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring and watching carefully to prevent scorching. This thickening step concentrates the flavors and improves the syrup’s consistency.
- Finish and Store the Syrup: Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the maple extract and vanilla extract until well combined. Allow the syrup to cool completely before transferring it to a container. Store the syrup in the refrigerator and use as desired to enhance your coffee drinks.
Notes
- Use canned pumpkin puree for best consistency and flavor; avoid pumpkin pie filling as it contains added spices and sugar.
- Adjust the amount of maple extract depending on how strong you want the maple flavor.
- Store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Shake or stir the syrup before each use, as it may thicken or separate slightly when chilled.
- This syrup is perfect not only in coffee but also drizzled over pancakes, waffles, or desserts.
