Instructions

  3. Add marshmallows: Add the entire 10 oz bag of marshmallows to the melted butter and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Incorporate cake mix: Stir in 1/2 cup dry strawberry or other flavor cake mix thoroughly; then remove the pot from heat.
  5. Add rice krispie cereal: Gradually fold in 5-6 cups of rice krispie cereal until each piece is fully coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  6. Form cupcakes: Spoon the mixture into the prepared cupcake pan, lightly pressing into each cup without compacting too hard to maintain a soft texture.
  7. Cool: Allow the treats to cool completely in the pan so they set properly.
  8. Make frosting: In a mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup shortening, beating until smooth and creamy.
  9. Add powdered sugar: Gradually mix in 2 cups powdered sugar until the mixture becomes smooth and fluffy.
